The organisers of Euro 2008 are looking back on the tournament and claim they hosted the best tournament ever.

The Austrian Football Association president Friedrich Stickler and the Swiss Football Association president Ralph Zloczower made a joint statement.

Their study into the tournament found that every match was sold out with additional Fan Zones allowing more fans to enjoy the match day atmosphere.

In addition, 62 million people visited the Uefa website with 155 million watching from their homes across the continent.

As many as 90 per cent of Swiss viewers tuned into the tournament with eight out of ten Austrians watching some of the event on their televisions.

The tournament made E1.3 billion with E90 million coming from ticketing and E130 million coming from corporate hospitality.

According to the organisers, some of this revenue will be distributed among member associations in lump-sum payouts.

It will also help fund youth and women's final tournaments.

"We set ourselves the challenge of organising the best Uefa European Championship final round," the organisers said.

"The results of studies and surveys show that we succeeded," they told Uefa.com.
