Everton's chief executive Keith Wyness has resigned with the club claiming the move has no relation to the planned move from Goodison Park to a new ground in Kirkby.
Plans for the stadium, which Mr Wyness was heavily involved with, are awaiting authorisation from the government but Everton insist that his resignation has no bearing on the move.
"The club wish to re-iterate our commitment to the Destination Kirkby project. The departure of Keith Wyness is in no way connected to that project," a statement read.
Many fans have been against the proposed move as it would see the club move outside the borders of Liverpool.
According to the BBC, reports suggest that the Department for Communities and Local Government are close to announcing the ruling on "calling in" the stadium project.
Any inquiry may delay construction of the stadium and possibly stop the plans altogether.
But Everton supporters will be enjoying the news that David Moyes is near to signing a new contract.
The Everton boss expects to sign within the next fortnight and is busy trying to recruit new signings for the coming season.
