More providers give arm chair fans 'better choice'

Football fans are enjoying better value for money when it comes to watching live League football, it has been claimed.

Sky, BT Vision, Virgin and Tiscali all offer the chance to watch Premier League games, as well as Setanta Sports.

Rob Barnes, head of broadband and mobiles at moneysupermarket.com, feels this added competition is a bonus for fans.

"This increased competition between providers is bringing great value for money to customers who traditionally needed to earn as much as a footballer to be able to watch them on TV," he explained.

But some fans will find the increased offerings a nuisance.

Early or late kick-off times, long distances to travel and low attendances have led some fans to question whether more matches on television is a good idea for the game.

West Bromwich Albion fans will be the first Premier League side to be inconvenienced by a journey before an early kick-off.

The newly promoted Baggies face Arsenal at London for a 12.45 kick-off on the opening day of the season on August 16th.
