Paul Davidson, an English businessman, is set to buy a controlling share in Spanish football club Real Mallorca.

Drac, which own Mallorca, revealed that a pre-agreement had been reached with Mr Davidson, but said that he would not take over as the club's president.

According to reports from the BBC, Vicente Grande will remain in control of the club with Mr Davidson using the club to promote his pipe-fitting firm on the continent.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, he said he didn't know much about football and the move was purely a business investment.

"We will operate our other businesses from the club, but I will not be taking decisions about football. I will leave that to the current management," he said.

It is rumoured that he beat off competition from former Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd to land the deal.

It will see him pay £50 million for a 96 per cent stake in the club.
