Jose Mourinho has claimed that Italian football fans are feistier and more intense than their English counterparts.

The former Chelsea manager was appointed as coach of Inter Milan this summer and after 3,000 fans turned up to watch the 'special one' put his new team through their paces, he believes there is a big difference.

"Italian fans are different from English fans," he claimed.

"In England, the support lasts 90 minutes. Here in Italy, you experience it every day."

According to reports in the Daily Telegraph, Mourinho's point was backed up by the fact that 40,000 fans made it to the San Siro to witness the arrival of Ronaldinho who has recently joined AC Milan.

But figures from ESPN revealed that Inter Milan enjoyed the highest average attendance in Serie A last season, 59,054 attending their home games.

The unofficial average attendance for the league was 25,115, a stark contrast to the English Premier League which saw an average of 36,076 fans attend.

Manchester United drew the biggest crowds, 75,691 was Old Trafford's average attendance last season.
