Michel Platini has called for a salary cap to be imposed on football clubs to limit the amount they spend on wages.

Speaking to European affairs minister from 27 countries across the continent, the Uefa president said football needed "to develop better control of clubs' spending".

Without specifically calling for salary controls, he was hoping to convince European powers that fair laws could be implemented into sports to recognise "the true values of sport".

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, William Gaillard, communications director at Uefa said that any law would be difficult to enforce but said clubs needed to discuss the idea of only spending a percentage of income on salaries.

"Clubs are stealing players aged 12 and 13, taking them away from their homes and then dumping them again a few years later," he said.

He claimed that there were cases where talented players have lost out because they opted for a transfer too early in their career.

Mr Gaillard said that fans would not turn up to watch certain teams win 7-0 every week.
