Luton handed record 30 point deduction

Luton Town will start next season with a 30-point reduction after a ruling from the Football League docked them a further 20 points.

A ten-point deduction was already hanging over the club after they were found guilty of misconduct for paying agents via a third party and the latest 20-point penalty comes after the club did not meet insolvency rules.

But the new ruling will allow the side to compete in the league despite starting with the biggest points deduction in history.

The punishment was given because the club could not agree a Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA) to exit administration.

There will be no chance of appeal as the Football League ordered Luton Town 2020 to forego the right as part of the deal.

Stephen Browne, director of the holding company, said the club was being punished for being honest.

"Once again the faithful supporters are left high and dry and once again a policy of honesty is not recognised at all by the footballing authorities who claim they want to clean up the game," he said.
