Watford could be the latest club to get a new owner after their chairman indicated his willingness to sell.

Graham Simpson said he was open to offers, if a buyer could be found.

The club had received an offer towards the end of April but it revealed that discussions had not been successful and were no longer continuing.

But a statement from the Championship side revealed that Mr Simpson was willing to find a buyer "to take Watford forward".

Lord Ashcroft, the largest shareholder of the club, is also willing to sell his stake if a suitable buyer can be found.

Strand Partners have now been instructed to find a buyer for the club.

Mr Simpson, who has been chairman of Watford for the last six years, said that a sale was in the club's best interests.

He said that progress had been made during his tenure and indicated that it was important to maintain the progress.

Mr Simpson also revealed the club was looking for a buyer who was prepared to invest in the club's "long-term future".
