Fifa president Sepp Blatter has revealed that there is a contingency plan in place should the World Cup in South Africa fall through.

Security concerns have affected the build up to the 2010 tournament and Blatter is concerned that a new plan may be needed at the last minute.

While he is confident that the tournament will go ahead, Blatter said there was a need for a contingency plan to give Fifa another option.

He said he would be a "negligent" president if he did not have a plan B "put away in a drawer".

"Only a natural catastrophe would change things," he explained.

"If we had to activate the plan B, we would take our decision after the Confederations Cup," Blatter said.

The build-up to the 2010 World Cup has been shrouded in controversy over safety concerns prompted by recent violence against foreigners, which has left Fifa officials nervous.

South Africa has also been affected by power supply problems after the nation's electricity supplier, Eskom, was forced to introduce load-shedding because of a lack of power.
