Millions of German fans watched their side's 3-2 victory over Turkey in the Euro 2008 semi-finals.

About 30 million Germans tuned into televisions to watch the game while a further 500,000 gathered at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin to soak up the atmosphere.

Speaking to Deutsche Welle, a spokeswoman for the Berlin fan zone said the atmosphere was "superb".

The Germans were joined by a strong contingent of Turkish supporters, who although outnumbered, joined in with the crowds.

Celal Bingol, president of the Turkiyemspor Berlin football club, said that the event was a big step towards integration.

Fan zones across Germany erupted into celebration at the final whistle, with fireworks being set off in Hamburg and the Berlin zone turned into a carnival.

Germany await the winners of Spain against Russia in Sunday's final and many Turkish fans are expected to support the Germans, due to the strong community of Turks living there.
