Fans' groups could be consulted over plans to arrange a friendly fixture between Scotland and Argentina.
The Scottish Football Association (SFA) are set to hold talks with agents representing the South American giants and could also get fans' views on the situation.
The 'challenge match' could demand a large appearance fee as the Argentines are known to negotiate large prices.
As a result, this could increase the price of a match day ticket and impact on fans.
But the BBC revealed that fans will be consulted to see if they want the fixture before any concrete plans are put in place.
A spokesperson for the SFA said on Friday that it expected negotiations with the Argentine representatives to take place over the course of the weekend.
Sky Sports News reported an SFA spokesperson as saying that it would "have more to say next week".
The fixture could go ahead in November when there is a free international date.
