Norwich City may have narrowly avoided relegation from the Championship last season, but they have come top of the league in terms of looking after their fans.
A survey conducted by the Football League placed celebrity cook Delia Smith's men at the top of seven out of 12 categories, while fewer than five per cent of City's fans had cause to complain about their matchday experience (apart from the final result, perhaps) compared with the overall average of 12 per cent.
Norwich was rated as best in the Championship in terms of matchday atmosphere, fan safety, stewarding, cleanliness, catering price, catering standard and attitude of catering staff, while nearby rivals Ipswich were commended for their pre-match/half-time entertainment, Sheffield United came out on top in the quality and use of PA category and Hull were recognised for their stadium's sight lines and toilet facilities.
According to Carrow Road stadium manager Leon Blackburn, who played a key part in securing top marks in the stewardship stakes, the key to success is a loyal team.
"You develop an eye for people and can quickly assess the way they communicate or the way they listen," he told the Eastern Daily Press.
"If they come and work as stewards, they put on the official orange Norwich City coat and immediately feel part of the club, a sense of belonging. Our stewards are very loyal - we only have a ten per cent turnover every year from a pool, of around 300 stewards and some of the team have been with us for years."
More than 40,000 supporters were polled for the survey, over half of whom followed Championship clubs.
