Heineken refreshes its Champions League sponsorship deal

Football Sponsors/ Sponsorship and Media

Heineken has announced that it is extending its sponsorship of the Uefa Champions League for a further three years.

The new deal will mean that Heineken is associated with the competition up to and including the 2012 final.

The Dutch beer company first became involved with the Champions League in the 2005/2006 season and has obviously felt the benefit of having its brand exposed to a TV audience of 140 million viewers.

As the competition is watched in 230 countries, it is appropriate that Heineken has taken the famous silver trophy on a tour of Latin America and Asia.

Its sponsorship will also enable 350 prize winners to take their seats alongside Chelsea and Manchester United fans at this year's Moscow final.

Stefan Orlowski, Heineken's group commerce director, toasted the new deal by saying: "With TV coverage around the world, the UEFA Champions League has become a truly global phenomenon. It is therefore a natural fit with the Heineken brand, the world's most international premium beer."

Uefa has confirmed that the Amsterdam-based beer company is the first of six official sponsors to sign a sponsorship deal taking it up to 2012.
