Gretna FC has until May 17th to find a buyer or it will fold at the end of the season.
That is the frank admission of David Elliot of administrators Wilson Field Ltd who raised hopes by revealing that there were still four potential buyers for the Scottish club.
The news means that fans attending Gretna's last fixture of the season on May 13th might never have the chance to see their club play again.
Gretna's recent history has been a tale of rags to riches and back to rags. With the financial support of businessman Brooks Mileson they went from being a non-league side to playing the likes of Rangers and Celtic in the Scottish Premier League.
But just a year since winning promotion to the SPL, the club have faced the heartbreak of relegation and an uncertain future without Mileson's financial support.
Following a creditors' meeting in the town administrators said it had been decided to let the club continue to play its remaining fixtures.
If no buyer is found for the team then 40 staff face being made redundant.
