Paul Stapleton, the chairman of Plymouth Argyle, has spoken out in support of the 20 per cent stake taken in the club by a Japanese investor, saying there is "no downside".
Mr Stapleton told BBC Sport that the move "brings a lot of opportunities" to the Championship side who lie tenth in the league.
"It's very difficult economically in the south west and Britain and we've got opportunities to spread our name across the world," he said.
He also said there is "a lot of optimism" behind the deal.
K&K Shonan Management Corporation have taken a 20 per cent stake in the club's holding company and will help to negotiate commercial agreement abroad in a move that could open up avenues in the Asian market.
"We may see our first Japanese player playing for Argyle if the manager wants him," said Stapleton.
"It's expanding our horizons and opening up the Far East," he added.
The manager, Paul Sturrock, has also backed the move and described it as a "bonus" for the football club.
He told BBC Radio Devon that a player exchange would be looked into, or a "wee tour".
