Portsmouth are ready to submit plans for a new training facility in Gosport.

It will be home to ten full-size football pitches and will cover around 35 acres in the Alver Valley area of Lee-on-Solent close to Portsmouth.

As well as providing space for the Portsmouth players to train, two of the pitches will be available for use by the community.

An indoor pitch will also be made available to local schools.

Portsmouth now have to wait for approval from the local council but if it is granted permission to go ahead with the scheme, it should be up and running in time for the 2009/2010 season.

The club estimates that the construction of the facility will cost around £8 million.

Portsmouth currently sit seventh in the Premier League, just four points behind Everton and a European spot.

However, the club will be guaranteed a place in the Uefa Cup if they beat Cardiff in the FA Cup Final in May.
