Leeds case begins

Football Clubs News

Leeds United have begun their challenge against the Football League for a 15-point penalty they received.

The punishment was dished out after Leeds allegedly broke competition rules on insolvency.

The club claims that the punishment was outside of the League's jurisdiction and wants the 15 points handed back.

If the punishment is deemed to have been illegal and Leeds get the points back there will be huge consequences on the League One table.

Leeds would be thrust from sixth place to second spot and automatic promotion.

Carlisle United would be de-seated from second place, six points behind Leeds with just three games left to go.

"I think Leeds will get something back," Carlisle manager John Ward, told the Times.

"But rules should be adhered to. The goalposts will have been moved with three games to go, which is strange," he added.

Leeds were hit with the points deduction because they failed to come out of administration via a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).

If the club loses the case, Bournemouth and Luton Town face similar punishments next season as they too have failed to exit administration via a CVA.
