The Football Association is investigating claims that a former Premier League football took a bribe and helped to throw a game.
A report has appeared in the Independent, claiming that a player got himself sent off on purpose and encouraged three team mates to get booked.
The incident is alleged to have happened in the last two years and reportedly led to a £50,000 debt of the players being written off.
"We will be making inquiries about the story," an FA spokesman told the BBC.
"First we need to find out if the match was inside our jurisdiction - the story says it was in Britain, but we don't know if it was in England," he added.
The allegations came to light at a seminar at the Sporting Chance clinic.
According to reports, the player in question attended the clinic to eat his addiction to gambling.
