Porto accused of cheating

Portuguese side FC Porto have been officially accused of cheating in the Portuguese Liga.

The club stands accused of match-fixing in two domestic fixtures during the 2003-04 season.

The season in question was arguably the club's most successful as they won the league and the Uefa Champions League.

However, the league victory is now being called into question, with officials at the Portuguese Liga investigating the club for allegedly fixing two matches.

The first was a 2-0 victory over Estrela da Amadora, while the other was a 0-0 draw at Beira.

The club has released a statement, explaining that it was aware of the allegations.

"FC Porto and their president Jorge Pinto da Costa have been notified by the LPFP [Portuguese Liga] of the accusations and investigations concerning matches between FC Porto and Estrela da Amadora, and Beira Mar and FC Porto," it read.

At the time of the alleged offences Jose Mourinho was manager of FC Porto, but the former Chelsea boss has not been mentioned in the report.
