The chairman of the Southampton Independent Supporters Association (Sisa) has called into question the decision of former Saints chairman Rupert Lowe and Michael Wilde to join forces to make demands of the current board.
Wilde has agreed to proxy his stake to Lowe, giving the pair control of around 46 per cent of shares. Should the board not agree to the duo's proposals, an extraordinary general meeting will be called where Lowe and Wilde are likely to win the backing of other shareholders.
However, Sisa's Mike O'Callaghan believes the return of Lowe and Wilde - himself a former chairman - could prove disastrously divisive.
"Everyone should be getting together behind the team," O'Callaghan told This is Hampshire. "But already you can see that Rupert Lowe's possible return is splitting the fans."
"I'm totally disillusioned with Saints," he added.
Judging by the message boards on This is Hampshire, though, fans believe that Lowe's presence at the club could prove stabilising.
Indeed, it is Sisa who are being painted as the villains of the piece.
A shareholder told the website: "Sisa and its chairman are not do not speak for the majority of Saints fans. If a Lowe/Wilde consortium can offer an alternative which will return the PLC to profitability and the team to success and the EPL, I will support them."
Saints are currently hovering one place above the relegation zone in the Championship.
