Rangers to reward loyal fans

In an extraordinary demonstration of gratitude to the club's loyal supporters, Rangers have bought the entire away allocation for the away leg of the Uefa Cup tie with Sporting Lisbon and will give tickets away free to fans.

Around 2,500 supporters stand to benefit from the scheme, with the lucky few chosen on the basis of previous travel history.

"This gesture is a big thank you to our supporters who have shown extraordinary commitment this season," said chief executive Martin Bain.

What's more, Gers chairman David Murray has announced that adult season ticket costs are to be frozen, while the price of season tickets for juveniles is actually to be reduced.

Rangers fans will also be pleased to hear that money will be available to manager Walter Smith to strengthen the squad in the summer.

"There was money available to manager Walter Smith in January - several millions of pounds to spend - and he chose not to," Murray commented.

"We will make resources available to Walter in the summer. We're on the way up as a club."
