The FA has rejected the plea of Fifa disciplinary chief Marcel Mathier to extend the three-match ban handed out to Birmingham City's Martin Taylor following his leg-breaking challenge on Eduardo during Birmingham's 2-2 draw with Arsenal on February 23rd.
According to an FA spokesperson, extending the ban would have set a "dangerous precedent".
"It would be unreasonable at this stage of the season to change our disciplinary procedures on the basis of one case," he said.
"Serious foul play carries a three-match ban and the only cases where that has been increased is where there has been a clear case of intent and no-one is suggesting that happened in this case."
However, the spokesperson did reveal that the FA will be conducting a thorough review of the disciplinary process at the end of the season, and that dangerous tackles were likely to be looked at in-depth.
As part of the process, Fifa will be invited to air its views on the subject.
On Tuesday, Taylor returned to action in a reserves match against Tottenham.
He played for the entire 90 minutes in the 3-3 draw.
