Rotherham United have been hit with a ten-point penalty after going into administration.
The club has now dropped out of the League Two play-off positions and finds itself back in 12th place.
It is the second time in little less than three years that Rotherham have been forced to call in the administrators, having taken a similar course of action two summers ago.
This led to relegation from League One last season, and their chances of bouncing back straight away have now been severely dented.
"This is a sad day for the club but we are hopeful that by working closely with the administrators the club can live to fight another day," said Rotherham's chairman, Denis Coleman. "We are desperate to make it back into the play-off places despite the ten-point deduction."
According to Jeremy Bleazard of XL Business Solutions, the firm appointed to run the club during administration, the survival of the club depends on the finding of a purchaser.
"We need people to come forward immediately," he said.
