'Well chairman says sorry to Celtic fans

Motherwell chairman John Boyle has apologised to Celtic fans who made the journey to Fir Park after yet another game at the stadium was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

In fact, so "embarrassed" is Mr Boyle that he is going to ask the Scottish Premier League (SPL) if home matches involving Motherwell and Gretna - who are also based at Fir Park - can be temporarily relocated to ensure fixtures go ahead.

"Fans need certainty and we haven't been giving them this and I'm on the case," he told BBC Radio Scotland.

"We're going to have to take drastic action and ask the SPL if we can relocate some of our fixtures so that our fans and away fans have certainty about the remaining games.

"This may take three or four weeks to sort out. Every short-term measure we've taken clearly hasn't worked."

In order to improve matters at Fir Park, meanwhile, Mr Boyle says he has resigned himself to the fact that the pitch needs to be ripped up and relaid.

He added that in all likelihood Gretna's SPL match against Celtic next Sunday - the income on which the former are relying to stay in business - would not be played at the Motherwell ground.
