Gretna's administrator has admitted the team is "running out of time".
The club is in the midst of a financial crisis following the decision of backer Brooks Mileson to withdraw his support following a bout of illness.
And David Elliot is now concerned that Gretna will not be able to field a team for their match with Aberdeen on Saturday.
At present, just ten players have made themselves available for selection amid concerns over the level of insurance cover available to them and future payment.
"I can't insist that the players play if they haven't been paid and I can't pay them on Monday either," Mr Elliot, who as administrator is running the club, said.
"Failure to play on Saturday would mean we are in breach of league rules and would leave us open to be fined and face other penalties.
"Unfortunately we are running out of time."
However, Mr Elliot said he had not given up on the club - and if Gretna could survive the weekend the prospect of a big payday is on the horizon.
Next Sunday the Weddingmakers are due to entertain Celtic.
