Bundesliga may open up to foreign investors

It may soon become possible for football clubs in the German Bundesliga to be owned by foreign investors.

A conference is taking place on March 5th, where it is expected that the new rule will be passed.

Anschutz Entertainment, the world's second largest live music and entertainment events presenter, will be in attendance.

The firm is pushing for the rule change and it already has an interest in Major League Soccer clubs in the US.

German club presidents have expressed their hope that the change will lead to a windfall in Germany like that currently being seen in Britain, although many fans may not believe that foreign ownership is necessarily a good thing.

Half of all English Premier League clubs currently have foreign owners and the money they have brought into the game has led to success for the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.

The latest figures show that revenues from the Bundesliga are lower than those experienced in England, Spain and Italy.
