Richard Caborn, England's 2018 World Cup ambassador remains upbeat about the country's chances of hosting the tournament.
It comes after Fifa president Sepp Blatter said that proposals for a 39th overseas Premier League match may damage England's bid.
However, former sports minister Mr Caborn has told BBC Radio Five Live that he remains very confident that the country's bid will be accepted by Fifa.
"We're keeping very close to Fifa and I had a long discussion with Sepp Blatter the week before last," he said.
"I think he is very clear that we will give a very professional approach to this, that we will give a very compelling bid when the opportunity arises.
"Not only that, we will give a legacy for both this county and a legacy for Fifa as well if we get the opportunity to run the World Cup in 2018," continued Mr Caborn.
He also revealed that he believes the issue with the 39th Premier League game is a completely separate issue from the World Cup bid.
