Former Owls chairman 'agrees shares sale'

A London-based consortium looks set to takeover Sheffield Wednesday as former Wednesday chairman Dave Allen has agreed to sell his shares in the club.

According to BBC Radio Sheffield, a verbal deal has been struck between Allen and Geoff Sheard, a businessman acting as the frontman for the consortium.

Allen has expressed his willingness to sell his 11 per cent stake on the condition that fans' group Wednesdayite, which owns ten per cent of the club, also agrees to part with its holding.

While Sheard and Wednesday have not yet made an official comment, Wednesdayite has revealed discussions with the group are under way and a formal offer for the shares is expected later this week.

The Owls have won four League titles, three FA Cups and one League Cup, but are currently languishing near the relegation zone in the Championship.
