Bolton launch police complaint

An official complaint has been made by Bolton Wanderers over the treatment of their supporters during the Uefa Cup tie with Atletico Madrid last night (February 21st).

Wanderers have complained about "overzealous and disproportionate" action from the Spanish police, which resulted in fans being charged by baton-wielding riot officers.

Club chairman Phil Gartside is unhappy with the way supporters were treated and has lodged an official complaint.

"I have great sympathy for any of our supporters who have been injured by what is clearly an overreaction by the Spanish police," he said.

"Bolton Wanderers Football Club will be pursuing the matter at the highest level and seeking an explanation from the Spanish authorities," continued Mr Gartside.

Aside from the trouble off the pitch, it was a good night for Bolton, who secured their passage into the last 16 of the Uefa Cup with a nil-nil draw.

The club progressed after beating Madrid 1-0 at the Reebok Stadium last week courtesy of an El Haj Diouf goal.
