Ranson 'close to completing Coventry takeover'

Coventry chairman Ray Ranson is stepping up his attempt to assume full control of the club.

The former Manchester City player has urged supporters to transfer his shares so the club's takeover can be completed.

Ranson currently holds 88 per cent of the Midlands club but still needs a further two per cent before the deal can be completed.

However, he is confident that things can be finalised within "the next couple of weeks".

Ranson's Sky Blue Sport and Leisure company, which is backed by Sisu Capital, saved Coventry from administration on December 14th last year.

A former player for Birmingham City, Newcastle United and Reading as well as Manchester City, Ranson has previously been linked with takeovers for a number of other clubs including Aston Villa, Southampton and Bournemouth.

After his playing career, he made millions in insurance and sports finance.
