Fifa blocks transfer

Football's international governing body Fifa has stepped in to prevent the transfer of Daniel Cousin to Fulham.

The 30-year-old Rangers striker was due to sign for the west London side after arriving in Scotland in the summer.

A £3 million price tag was agreed after an initial £2 million offer was turned down by Rangers.

However, Fulham, who are currently sitting second bottom of the Premier League, have had their plans scuppered by Fifa.

The governing body has refused to sanction the transfer because Cousin has already played for two clubs this season.

Under Fifa rules it is illegal for any player to represent more than two clubs in any one season.

Cousin had played just 20 minutes for French side Lens before joining Rangers but a move to Fulham would have meant he was in breach of the rules.

The blocked move has surprised a number of people after Javier Mascherano played for Corinthians, West Ham and Liverpool last season.
