Website's Ebbsfleet buyout nears completion

Blue Square Premier side Ebbsfleet United have been bought by members of website MyFootballClub.

It means that 27,278 people own an equal share in the club in what is a groundbreaking deal.

An agreement for the takeover had been reached in November but members of the website were given until today (January 23rd) to vote on whether or not they wanted to see the deal go through.

A total of 18,000 members voted, with 95.8 per cent backing the move, while the same percentage agreed to give manager Liam Daish the freedom to carry out his own plans in the January transfer window.

"We believe it is the first community website takeover of its kind in the world, not only in football," MyFootballClub creator Will Brooks told the BBC.

Each member of the site paid £35 to create a £700,000 total. They will each own an equal share of a 75 per cent stake in Ebbsfleet United.

Once the deal has been finalised, members of the website will vote on team selection, transfers and all other major decisions.
