Liverpool 'set for second takeover in 12 months'

Speculation is mounting that Liverpool Football Club might be changing hands for the second time in a year.

According to the Observer, current owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett Junior are attempting to transfer the debt they incurred when buying Liverpool onto the club itself.

However, this is a complicated process and it is questionable whether the American pair will be able to do this before the loan's due date at the end of February.

Mindful of this, an Arab investment group, Dubai International Capital (DIC), is thought to be considering making an offer to buy Hicks and Gillett Junior out for around £500 million.

Takeover discussions are set to place before the end of January, the newspaper says.

DIC almost bought the club last February, but Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry crucially switched support from the Arab to American group.

Should DIC take over, Jose Mourinho has been tipped to replace under-fire manager Rafael Benitez.
