Bluetooth units will be installed in eight Premier League and Championship grounds as well as that of Scottish Premier League club Celtic, it has been revealed.
Along with the Scottish champions, Birmingham City, Wigan, Portsmouth, West Ham and Wolves have afforded Bluepod Media exclusive Bluetooth rights in their grounds, while preliminary agreements with four other clubs have been reached.
Around 15 Bluepod units will be installed at each club which will allow fans to receive football news, sponsors' information and advertisements.
Adverts will be paid for by advertisers at a pay-per-download rate of between 40p and 70p.
"This is not about tagging on to outdoor advertising companies; it works well in its own right, particularly when people are standing around for two hours, and the sites have been established for some time so people get used to them," Bluepod UK managing director John Scorah said, Media Week reports.
Fans who opt to receive the texts will receive club profiles, fixtures, news and manager notes.
