FA calls for cease fire in feud with football agents

The FA has announced that it will not be applying a "zero tolerance" approach to agents who accidentally break new laws introduced by the governing body last September.

The January transfer window will be the first time that the rules - which prohibit clubs from paying agents unless the money is taken out of a player's salary - can be tested, and as such the FA has decreed that only deliberate breaches will be punished.

However, in return agents have had to agree to postpone the threat of legal action until after the close of the transfer window on January 31st.

"Agents will work within the regulations, but it doesn't mean they are acceptable or legal. If they are unworkable, then we may take action further down the line," confirmed Mel Stein, a spokesman for the Association of Football Agents, in the Daily Telegraph.

"It makes no sense to have a massive war about something when we don't know what the war is about. Everyone will wait to see how this pans out."

Meanwhile, it is thought that the FA is also close to appointing a company to report back on the transfers conducted over the course of the next month to ensure that regulation is being complied with.
